The Boring Office Investments that are Actually Worth it

Okay, so every office makeover starts out fun, right? Like, yeah, you want to have some nice business investments, and so the office as a whole could technically be considered one. Maybe you’re out here debating wallpaper patterns, and then picking out “modern” chairs that probably aren’t even comfortable (but they look picture perfect though), and oh, and if you have a team, you can guarantee that there’s always that one person who insists on getting the fancy espresso machine because “it’ll boost productivity.”

Like it all makes total sense, and all of this really is fun, and kinda invigorating too.  Now, no one actually likes talking about the boring stuff, but yeah, there are the boring investments you can’t neglect if you actually own the office building itself (but you can probably skip reading most of this if you’re just renting).

So, you need a functional office, so what’s the important boring investments though?

What’s the Plumbing Situation?

This might be the most boring of them all, but it’s also the most important one of them all, so of course it absolutely has to get addressed! But yeah, you don’t think about plumbing until it betrays you. Like, it’s all fine and great until you’re standing in a puddle near the breakroom sink or hearing that weird bubbling noise coming from the pipes. No, really, that’s like nightmare fuel, and sometimes offices need to close down in order for this to get fixed; therefore, that’s downtime, meaning no revenue!

Reliable plumbing is one of those things that sounds boring until you don’t have it. Basically, bad plumbing just throws off anything and everything, so you’re absolutely better off just having Bluefrog Plumbing or a local professional plumbing company to help you sort this all out, be it installing more toilets in the restroom or just general plumbing fixes. But yeah, just generally speaking here, plumbing should be invisible. You shouldn’t have to notice it to know it’s working.

You Need to Think About the Room Temperature

There’s this unspoken rule in every office: half the people are freezing, and the other half are melting. Mostly, you hear that the AC is on full blast and you need to wear a sweater all the time (meaning so much for that cute outfit). Like, yeah, sure, if it’s a heatwave outside, by all means, that AC needs to be blasting, like there’s no denying that whatsoever.

But at the same time, there shouldn’t be seasonal confusion; there needs to actually be a comfortable temperature for everyone, so no one is melting or freezing. Yeah, there definitely needs to be a middle ground.

Is Ugly Fluorescent Lighting a Good Idea?

Well, no, of course it’s not! While sure, this does honestly get the job done, it doesn’t necessarily get the job done in a good way, though.

So it might actually help to swap out those for some different fixtures. Well, that and if you can, maybe try to get more natural lighting in the space. Sometimes, curtains and shades stay closed in offices all the time, but ideally, you shouldn’t do that and instead should embrace the free lighting the sun gives you (plus it’s better for your mental health, too).
