If you are any type of business owner, chances are you have struggled with clarifying your brand mission at one point. Especially when you are starting out, you probably feel like you want to reach everybody! However, the more specific you can get with your brand mission, the more you will be able to target the right people and speak directly to what they need.⁠⠀

Brainstorming questions to get started:

What do you feel called to do? What is your unique gift to give to the world?
What is your background? What led you to where you are now? How did you become interested in the product or service you offer?
Who do you admire in your field? Who would you like to be associated with? Why them, specifically? List out qualities in them that you are drawn to.
Who are your ideal clients? Whose lives would you like to positively impact?
What is the #1 problem that you help to solve for your clients?
Why is your work important to you? What’s the impact you hope to have in the world? What would you like to be most remembered for?

Communicating your brand mission involves these 3 key pieces:

WHAT you do⁠
WHO you do it for⁠
WHY you do it (Why is your work beneficial to your clients? Make sure to use their language here- what do they need help with?)⁠

For example, I do holistic brand and web design (WHAT) for conscious entrepreneurs and small businesses (WHO) so they can stand out and attract their ideal clients (WHY).⁠

If you’re currently struggling with this, I highly recommend doing a journaling exercise with yourself to write out your own brand mission statement. Write out the answers to these 3 key pieces, and keep rewriting the mission statement to narrow it down even further until it feels crystal clear in your mind. Remember to keep it SIMPLE by removing any unnecessary "fluff words" until it feels right to you.
